New partnership with Wordsmiths

Wakefield-based Wordsmiths has announced a new partnership which should open up new markets and drive growth for the small communications agency.

Just a month after being appointed to the copywriting framework for the University of Central Lancashire after a competitive tender, Wordsmiths is now joining forces with independent strategic communications consultancy, Herdwick Communications Limited.

Wordsmiths’ managing director, Louise Turner, said: “Poor communication is no longer an option. Audiences are smarter, recognising AI written content and fact-checking when something doesn’t sound right.

“Bringing together our strong storytelling skills with Herdwick’s proven insight and expertise in strategy, sustainability and stakeholder communications creates even more growth opportunity for us – and them.”

Elizabeth Maclean, co-managing director at Herdwick, said: “Partnering with another specialist agency brings clients significant benefits including direct access to senior public relations practitioners with extensive experience. Herdwick’s co-founder, Mike Evans and I are delighted to be able to pair our strategic communications expertise with the range of services offered by Wordsmiths as well as their exceptional ability in storytelling. With this announcement, we are now able to offer even more to our clients.

“Organisations are increasingly finding that specialist small businesses are the perfect solution.  They have a keen eye on cost, offer a range of experience and can rely on them to deliver seamlessly to a high standard.”

With roots in both the public and private sectors, Herdwick is known for translating complex, high-pressure situations into clear communications that maintain control of the narrative. The consultancy has deep expertise in sustainability communications and reporting, change and internal communications, reputation and issues management and stakeholder engagement and strategy. Herdwick clients include airlines, train operators, security tech firms and Universities.

Wordsmiths  are expert storytellers and content strategists, trusted by clients to deliver clarity without sacrificing substance, craft thought leadership, white papers, and digital content, and refine tone of voice and message consistency. With a team of up to 14 experts with backgrounds in communications and PR, marketing and journalism, the agency was established in 2011 and works with clients including pensions experts Barnett Waddingham, the University of Hull and UK National Nuclear Laboratory.

At a time when reputations, authenticity and trust are more important than ever before, the strength of words, clarity and credibility seriously matter. Organisations need sharp, accurate content aligned with stakeholder expectations. This applies whether they’re creating sustainability reports, internal restructuring messages, or thought leadership white papers.

The Herdwick–Wordsmiths partnership brings an integrated approach and execution, with one team guiding projects from planning to final proof.
